2 Days 1 Night Mongkos Bidayuh Longhouse

Mongkos Village is a 24 doors Bidayuh authentic longhouse. This Bidayuh houghouse is among the few surviving longhouse in sarawak beside Benuk Village and Anah Rais Village that survive through the confrontation the undeclared war between of Malaysia - Indonesia (1962 - 1966)

Day 1  ORANG UTAN + SERIAN TOWN + MONGKOS BIDAYUH LONGHOUSE (L/D)              

8.00 am  Depart from hotel at 8.00am to Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre to catch a glimpse of the Orang Utan during the feeding time (9:00am till 10:00am) before proceed to Serian Town (40 mins ride). Upon arrival, visit to the Serian Colourful Market with different races such as Chinese, Malay, Uban, Bidayuh and other sub-ethnic groups selling various jungle products and jungle produce such as wild fruits, sago worms, ferns and etc.., wet market selling fresh and lives fishes, snacks and many many more. A very unique market to visit.

Then journey continue to Mongkos Bidayuh village. which is located near Sarawak -Kalimantan (Indonesia) border.  The Bidayuh (Land Dayak) is the second largest tribe in Sarawak.  In the olden day, they lived in longhouses but now mostly Bidayuh consist of individual houses rather then longhouses.

Upon arrival check in to the village guest houses.  Bidayuh style of lunch will be serve.  After lunch visit to the longhouse which is built of wood and bamboo which was built in 1950’s.  Then continue to tour the village and meet the local people and learn about their way of life at the same time you can get the chance to take photos of the life of the locals in the longhouse.  After dinner, the Bidayuh ladies and gentlemen will perform their cultural dance and stories about the Confrontation, the undeclared War between Malaysia and Indonesia from the 1962 to 1966.  You can even see bullets holes in the wooden walls of the longhouse during the Confrontation time.learn more about their culture before retiring to bed.

 

Day 2   JUNGLE TREKKING + KUCHING                                                           (B/L)

7.30 am  Breakfast.  After breakfast depart for a walk along the village trails and pass through farmland to the picnic spot.  The village people are mostly farmers.  They grow rice, pepper, rubber, oil palm, vegetables.  Upon arrival at the picnic spot relax and dip in the cool clear water and enjoy the local style of cooking (bamboo in the chicken, rice and jungle ferns (If it is raining then lunch will be at the home stay).  Then walk back to the village and packed and say farewell to the longhouse folks, then return the same way back to Kuching City.
