3 Days 2 Nights Lemanak River Safari / Semenggoh Orang Utan

The Ibans are the Dayak peoples of Borneo. Formerly known as Sea Dayaks by the British. Ibans were renowned for practising headhunting and tribal/territorial expansion. A long time ago, being a very strong and successful warring tribe, the Ibans were a very feared tribe in Borneo. They speak the Ibanlanguage.

Day 1

8.00 AM  Meet at the lobby, transfer to Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre.  It is the only one of its kind in Sarawak.  These orang utan spend  most of the time foraging for food in the shelter of trees, some come out of hiding during the park regular feeding times, creating your best chance to catch a glimpse.  From here you will have the opportunity to observe these primates and their behavior, emotions and interactions.

Then the journey continue Lemanak Iban Long house which is about 250km from Kuching. On the way to Lemanak River, there will be a few stop – Serian Town where the local native selling their produces and products. You are free to wonder around the market and taking photos. 2nd stop will be at the pepper farm where you can see how the pepper and process.   3rd stop at Lachau Town for lunch and buy some gifts for the Iban folks.  After lunch proceed to Lemanak River. Upon reaching the lemanak river and a longboat ride to the Iban Longhouse. In  the longhouse you are free to tour the longhouse and takes photos. After dinner the Iban will perform their warrior dance and you are invited to dance with them and also try their rice wine which they make themselves. Over-night in the longhouse, sleeping in the ruai (veranda) with basic facility.

Day 2

After breakfast, proceed by Iban Longboat to upriver.  Then trek in the rainforest where the guide will highlight various plants, which the natives uses for food, medicine and handicrafts.  At the mean while also looking for wild jungle ferns for lunch.  Return back to the river bank where lunch will be prepared by the guide and the boat man.  You are encourage to join and learn how the Iban way of cooking or either you can dip yourself in the cool stream for relaxing.

After lunch relax at the river bank, before return to the longhouse.  Upon reaching the longhouse, free and easy till dinner time.  After dinner relax and sit together with the people to learn more about their culture and life style before retiring to bed.

Day 3 

After breakfast, say “Selamat Jalai” (Good Bye) to the people before leaving the longhouse.  The Iban will demonstrate the typical of way of how they use blowpipe for hunting in the jungle.

Same route back to the Lemanak River Jetty.  Then by road back to Kuching City.  On the way back we will stop at one of the local restaurant for lunch.
