Semenggoh Orang Utan

The Orang Utan, King of the Forest in Borneo is typically a bashful creature. The first center to houses the orang utan, who were either orphaned or rescued from captivity, are taught how to survive in the wild.

Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre which is about 24 km from Kuching.  It is the only kind in Sarawak.  Set up in 1975, this 7.4 sq km of virgin forest is home to orang utans. This Center is set up to care for wild animals which have either been found injured in the forest, orphaned, or were previously kept as illegal pets.  The unique place to see Orang Utan wondering around freely as they are not kept in cages or enclosure.

These endangered specials and Southeast Asia’s lone great ape genus, the Orang Utan is typically a bashful creature, yet when you visit Semenggoh. Additionally, while these tailless apes spend most of the time foraging for food in the shelter of trees, some come out of hiding during the park’s regular feeding times, creating your best chance to catch a glimpse. On this tour you will get the rare opportunity to observe these primates and their behaviour, emotions and interactions. Visitors are allowed to study and observe the orang utans at a distance.
